Over the years I have been contemplating about many things. For example, what makes us human, do we all act in the same primitive way in certain situations, is there such thing as an evil baby, what is the secret of the Cosmos, is there a parallel universe? The truth is that not many of my close friends ask themselves the same questions, the truth is that there are many people out there that are entirely focused on their boring daily routine: wake up, go to work, meet up with friends, hook up with someone and so on.

Many people don’t care about global warming, they don’t care about world affairs, they rarely think what makes them special. They want to look the way society wants them to look, that is why so many people pay high price for a liposuction surgery, simply because they are not ready to change their diet but they are ready to pay quite a lot in order to look artificially thin. And this is in fashion, just like big breasts and short skirts.
I wonder why some people are trying to analyse the things that are happening to them directly, or in the world that surrounds them, and others don’t? Why some people are looking at the big picture, when others are happy with their limited thinking and have no intention whatsoever to put some effort and learn something new. There are so many people around me that I dare to call stupid and limited, but they are not stupid because they have no career or bad grades at school. From where I am standing, they are stupid because they are not even trying to find out what is really happening around us. They don’t think about what they cannot see or feel, even though according to some, nearly 90% of the world cannot be seen or touched directly.

What is philosophy? How is it useful? Does it have any utility in real life? Or is it simply a theoretical study with no benefits? These are some questions that I am often asked when I tell people that I am a student of philosophy. Well, many persons made the mistake of confusing philosophy with psychiatry. Study of psychiatry may help the individual identify the connection between the thought process and physical decision-making.

Why does a depressed housewife go on a shopping spree where she purchases expensive stuff like Hermes Birkin handbags? This is a question that can be answered by an expert in psychiatry. Philosophy will focus on why human beings feel that dealing in an artificial concept like money and purchasing things that have temporary utility and value can impact their long-term well-being? As you can understand, philosophy focuses on the general concept and tries to perform a systematic study of even the most difficult problems.

The primary reason why people question the utility of philosophy is because of its general nature. By the time it is applied to specific individuals, many variable factors get involved which affect the philosophical truths. The end result is that philosophy is useful only in predicting how the masses would behave and how they would think under specific circumstances. As far as individuals are concerned, it is virtually impossible for any science to predict the actions of an individual accurately.
Why philosophy then? Well, there is a comical belief amongst students of philosophy that philosophy will become obsolete the day this question is answered accurately. Philosophy exists because we would probably invent something like it if at all it ceases to exist. This may sound like a roundabout answer to a straightforward question but the truth is that there is no straightforward answer to such a difficult question that queries the purpose and objective of philosophy.

One of my favourite tv shows to watch ever since its it graced the airwaves in 2004, is “House”. I watched its seventh season when it began in September last year and watched it again during the summer in preparation for season eight. All I can say is that season seven rocked it and the finale was mouthwatering. There were a few unanswered questions that I am sure will be floating around the minds of the viewers including myself

For those of you who didn’t see it you should full up your car at one of your favourite red diesel suppliers and head down to the DVD store and get it.

The finale starts off with a few stylistic scenes and with Lisa Cuddy stating that she would have House thrown in Jail should he come into the hospital again. This sets up Lisa Edelstein leaving the show well into the episode. So from the beginning the viewers were curious as to what Dr. House had done to warrant the response Lisa gave.

Next we are introduced to the patient of the episode who is a performance artist who had House taking her case be tricking him and who wanted to document her inevitable death as a sort of artistic expression.

We also see Cuddy and Wilson attempting to have House explain his reason why he had cut his leg open and not ask their help. House seems to have been forgotten by Cuddy and when he returns a hairbrush of hers and finds that she is having a good time and he is not involved. This causes House to lose his mind and he is devastated and Wilson tries to calm him down but House kicks him out of the vehicle and drive recklessly down the road driving the car right into Cuddy’s house and into her dining room. Cuddy and her guests luckily had moved on into the kitchen so no one was injured but House however could have been fatally injured.

Next we see house on the beach after having no remorse for what he did but some of us are let wondering if House was having some sort of hallucination about the whole thing.

We can be sure of more action coming up in season eight.

Now, where we stand in history, it’s far too late to wind back the clock and un-do the damage. What’s the point in lying to ourselves? The next best thing we can do, however, is be honest about what we are doing; although that’s not as good as a real solution – obviously – it’s a start, at least, to bringing ourselves together as one unit so something can be done.

One of the industries in the biggest position of doom and gloom are heating oil suppliers – the people who make the world go round in so many ways. Unlike plane companies, who, when you really break it down, offer a luxury service in the most cases, those who sell us oil for heating have very little choice. It’s a necessary evil and something which will be the very last thing to go, along with cars and motorbikes.

Don’t make outlandish claims: this is number 2 because it IS so common…and it’s really starting to get on my nerves…

So, considering all these things, the biggest question on my mind recently has been that of the title of this here article: how do you become a good corporate entity? It’s not something which I found answers to right away, I can tell you!

Here, then, are my rules on being a good corporate entity. They pretty much tie-in with my rules on life, really, and all of it revolves around being fair and doing the right thing.

1) Be upfront and, no matter how fake you sound, tell the world what you are actually doing: I say this first of all because very recently I found myself on an oil supplier’s web-site. And for once I was really impressed. Not only were they saying how they understood what harm they were doing to the environment, but they also gave a list of things which they try and do to counteract this. I thought that was quite refreshing!

 2) Don’t make outlandish claims: this is number 2 because it IS so common…and it’s really starting to get on my nerves.

3) Don’t treat the consumer like a child by offering free gifts. You can not buy the consumer’s affection and loyalty! (Unless it’s a really great gift like a car or something, in which case please ignore this point

4) Don’t hide important mistakes: they will show up at a later date and you’ll look very foolish then, won’t you?

After reading far too many philosophy books – I won’t give an exact number because it would scare you…it scares me even thinking about it, which I am now doing, just as I said I wouldn’t –I have come to the conclusion that opinion is something which changes in every second of our lives. I used to think that an opinion was something we carried with us constantly, a thing which is unchangeable, but the truth – what I believe, anyway – is that opinion is a shape-shifting animal. This makes it very hard to pin-down, which can be troublesome at times! (Even my opinion on opinion itself has changed since I started writing this…you see how complicated it is? Ah! My brain hurts…)

every second we are awake we are being fed yet more information and making new decisions and having even more hopes and dreams

Let’s look at an example. As if my name was Lucy and I was going out into town to buy some sexy underwear (and no, I’m not just using this persona because I want to go about in a sexy clothes shop where women are, but it definitely helps!)

I arrive and wander through the pink-framed door straight to the Lace Fabrics section. For some bizarre reason, all the women are only wearing bra and panties. Lucy likes this, yes!

Anyway, her opinion on lace was simple before she arrived: she had seen it on TV and in a catalogue and loved it.

But what’s this…as Lucy explores the shop she sees that actually, the lace isn’t all it’s cracked up to be! She tries some new panties on – in this shop you are allowed to, so there – and finds they chafe her. So she takes them off and decides to go about without her knickers for the rest of the day.

And so Lucy has changed her mind about lace. Something unthinkable that feels weird, but true!

And this is how my opinion on opinion is, and how yours probably is, too. Because every second we are awake we are being fed yet more information and making new decisions and having even more hopes and dreams. Such is the complex animal that is the human.

There ends my rant. But what do you think? And can you trust what you think, really? (Ps: weirdly, my opinion on opinion seems to have stalled now. But not to worry. I expect it’ll change into a completely different animal any second…and there it is. I knew it’d happen eventually.)

With the infamous Big Brother series moving over to Channel 5 soon, the question of how the creators will once again create something amazing and inventive is on everyone’s lips. Nobody is more intrigued about this than I am: I’ve seen virtually every single series and am presently finding it quite difficult to imagine how things could be in any way surprising.

That said, all this pressure might have some effect on the creators’attitude and who knows? It may make them work extra hard to devise something which really brings in the viewers. I for one certainly hope so. We’ve seen and heard a lot of things in the past and now I think the general public are ready for BB to become something completely new.

Everyone has a different take on BB and the hype that surrounds it. Some say it’s a waste of time, while others say it’s a psychological experiment that we can’t live without. My opinion is that it’s something in-between. And there are definitely new things to be done to the show, such as…

I would allow various creatures into the house to sniffle around them as they sat there absolutely terrified!

If I ran BB, things would get VERY exciting. It’d be on the BBC News every day, and people would have heart attacks just by the mere mention of this infamous show (and then they would get better again. Come on, even I’m not that cruel). For one thing I would keep them all in solitary confinement for 3 days, one at a time – to really test them and make sure they were good and ready for the fantastical experience they were about to witness – and for another I would allow various creatures into the house to sniffle around them as they sat there absolutely terrified! Somehow I don’t think this will happen, but that doesn’t mean I can’t wish it, does it?

Next, I would create a house that is completely upside down with 4×4 cars wallpaper just like when I was a kid. That’s right: ceiling on the ground, kitchen on the ceiling, that kind of thing. This would be entertaining as then the house mates would have to work out how to cook their dinner. The catch? They wouldn’t be able to cook their dinner, of course. In fact, the only way they’d be able to eat would be if they ate the walls and floor which were actually made of…du-du-du…chocolate!

OK, it’s outlandish, but that’s precisely what this show is going to need to become the new Big Brother we all deserve to see.

Opinion, eh? It’s a difficult thing to keep track of. That might sound like a ridiculous statement, but to prove my point I would like you to take a simple test:

1) Remember what you thought of tea when you a child. A cup of tea, I mean. Now remember what you think of it now. It shouldn’t be too hard for you, seeing as whenever you read this it is technically ’now’.

2) Remember what you thought of music when you were younger. Are your tastes still the same? Unlikely.

3) Remember what you thought of scary films when you were 5 or 6. And now…?

I think I have made my point. With the test I am illustrating, of course, those massive noticeable changes of opinion which are obvious, but everyday life is full of opinion-shifting to a much lesser degree. Every day, I’d say, I re-evaluate things and come to a new and different conclusion. It may be very similar to the previous day’s conclusion, but it has still evolved.

This is what I mean by opinion being a difficult thing. We go through our lives and are supposed to somehow keep track of the millions of different opinions we have about things, and if one day we get it wrong then there is always someone on hand to point it out to us. From everything from hybrid cars to toothpaste, we’re constantly trying to work out which side we’re on.

So don’t beat yourself up if your not very decisive. That is part of being human, after all.

If you know me you may already have guessed that I have a problem with the title of this article, which is also a statement. Here is why:

1) Old people have lived longer, which means they can also be more jaded. This being-more-jaded can radically affect their thoughts and opinions. In other words, it’s not all good, and, as much as there are many old people who know tons more than us youngsters, there are a minority who are very bitter and not worth paying much attention to. If you ask me.

2) Many old people believe that us youngsters couldn’t care less about them. This is wrong. This wrong impression is something which I am sure I will experience one day, in some form or another.

3) Old people know more, yes, but not about the things which many of us have to deal with. In other words, their problem-solving abilities harp back to the days of old. It isn’t their fault, of course, but the fact remains that they can’t be as knowledgeable about the world we live in, simply because we live in a different world: a world where information rules and the internet is on speed-dial.

Please don’t get me wrong: I love old people, I think they are great. But don’t discredit what the youth of today know, please. We know much more than the world will ever be able to process (and we should do, what with all our Cheap Flights where we end up sitting next to people who just will NOT shut up…).

The creation of the European Union has been associated with the establishment of a free market society that would benefit the commercial activity of every member state and would favor the economic activity of every EU citizen. In the following lines, I would try my best to summarize what we have achieved and what is yet to be seen from the institution.

Firstly, after putting my nitrile gloves since its is an important article, it is worth mentioning the common freedom policies that the EU shares. We have freedom of movement of goods, services, persons and companies within the boundaries of the Union. this has resulted in a vast social and economic dimensional expansion of the competence of the organization in its approach with dealing with such matters. Member states are no longer to be viewed as independent structures, but as participants in the creation of something bigger – a bigger political establishment capable of regulating itself and capable of promoting the general values of the perfect society associated with four basic economic freedoms.

Secondly, the Union has managed to incorporate an approach in dealing with criminal law and justice delivering. It is now an established practice that EU countries would assist themselves to prevent any crime commitment and to prevent any future breaches of the internal peace of the organization. Member states would generate huge resources in doing so in order to ensure safety and social cooperation between countries.
Thirdly, it is a social union. Cultures would merge for a better Europe, values would be strengthened for a more stable Union and people would be familiarised with the greater good as participants in the largest formation of countries ever known in the modern history of the world.

Important as philosophy is to the world and the people in it, even I can see why a lot of people think it’s completely pointless. In fact, I know that as well as anyone: once you’ve studied a fair bit of philosophy you know just how quickly viewpoints which were once considered 100% right can be completely and utterly discredited.

The main problem – or the thing which dogs philosophy the most, depening on who you are – for me, is that philosophy is all about opinion. OK, most of it is based on fact somewhere or another, but there is a lot of philosophy that is very…well, made up. Actually there’s a lot of it that’s literally just been pulled out of fresh air and written down on paper. Add to that the way that a lot of philosophy is really inaccessible with big long words and sentences that take half an hour to make any sense, and you have a problem on your hands in trying to explain why philosophy is a good thing.

The last problem that philosophy has always encountered is the way that it’s very hard to make sense of. Even the experts have to consult books which interpret the greatest works, and even then there is a great debate over what is fact and what is fiction.

Still, those negatives aside, I will always love philosophy. There’s something magical about it, and I’ll never forget my uncle getting me onto it that time we all went to some Lanzarote Villas .
